Leland Plays Ryan’s Mammoth Collection
Ryan’s Mammoth Collection is a public domain collection of tunes from the New England folk scene in the 19th century. Originally published in Boston in 1887, Ryan’s Mammoth Collection holds many tunes which the modern folk musician may find fun to play and present.
My goal with this project is to provide a resource for musicians who would rather hear the tunes played first, rather than cold sight-reading them.
Click Here for the Youtube Channel!
On the channel you can find videos of me playing through every tune in the collection (or at least my best attempt from just a quick sight-read).
Take a listen, and maybe you’ll find a neat tune that you’ll want to go and learn for yourself!
Also, if you’re an accompanist and want to practice accompanying fiddle tunes, I also provide links in the description of each video to another video without my piano accompaniment. So feel free to try playing along with the tunes as well!
Here are just a few of my favorite tunes!
All videos and audio associated with Leland Plays Ryan’s Mammoth Collection are free for public use, but please give the project credit when used
